Van Lieshout outplayed NIU?s Sean Hayes, 6-3, 6-2, to win the consolation bracket.
?Pete took care of business today,? said head coach Steve Rodecap. ?I like to see our guys able to win a back draw. It says a lot about his character, losing in the first round but continuing to fight and get the win here today.?
Eigis Vedrickas played the Husky?s Brian Livingston for the Open Division Championship. Vedrickas got down in the first set, losing 6-3. He fought back in the second but his effort was not enough to force a third set, losing the set 7-6.
?Eigis got off to a rough start,? said head coach Steve Rodecap. ?He wasn?t playing his style of play. I credit him for being very responsive and continuing to fight back. Next week should be a good opportunity for him at the ITA Midwest Championships. If he?s playing well he can beat anybody.?
Freshman Eric Fleming played for the title in the B Draw but was unable to establish a rhythm against Northern Illinois? David Katz. Katz swept the first set, 6-0, and then took the second, 6-2.
The Golden Eagles will send three players to the ITA Midwest Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Thursday.
