Binkley won at no. 2, by beating Sergio Vila, 2-6, 7-5, 11-9. Fleming persevered through three sets to take down Drake?s Chris Lueth, 3-6, 7-6, 10-6.
?We went down 3-1 quickly in singles,? head coach Steve Rodecap said. ?Both Brett and Eric were down, 4-1 and both guys fought back to take the match.?
Eigis Vedrickas continued his team leadership by teaming up with Binkley at no. 1 doubles. The duo got the early lead against the Bulldog?s Vila and Dave Iancu, 8-6. Marquette was not able to come away with wins at no. 2 or no. 3, losing the doubles point.
?We got off to a fast start in doubles and won at no. 1,? Rodecap said. ?We were up at no. 2 and weren?t able to hang on. It was a hard fought match. I thought the guys played well.?
Overall, Rodecap was pleased with the effort and play by his team over the weekend. The men will take their momentum and use it next weekend when they host the Marquette Invitational at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
?I feel comfortable with where we are at. We are a lot deeper now,? Rodecap said. ?I am happy with way we competed this weekend.?
