On Friday night, Marquette travels to College Park, Pa. to take on Penn State in a non-conference matchup. MU will be looking to win its fifth game in a row. Tipoff time at the Bryce Jordan Center is set for 6 p.m. CST.
The game will end an eight-day, four-game stretch for Marquette as it approaches its annual break for final exams. After tomorrow night, the team will be off until Dec. 18, when they host Wis.-Milwaukee at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (6-1) are coming off an exciting start to their BIG EAST tenure, defeating St. John's, 60-57, in front over over 2,000 people at the Al McGuire Center. Down by as many as 17 points with just under 18:00 to play in regulation, MU rallied back strong on both ends of the court, going on a 12-0 run to cut the Red Storm lead to just five. SJU managed just 14 points over the final 17:00 of play.
Three key trifectas spurred on the comeback - Carolyn Kieger's trey that capped a 21-6 run over a nine-minute span; a game-tying trey by Krystal Ellis with 2:09 to play; and the eventual gamewinner by Danielle Kamm that gave the blue and gold the lead with 44 seconds left.
Penn State (4-3) - winners of three straight - are led in scoring by Kam Gissendanner, at 16.7 ppg. The 6-1 sophomore scored a career-high 34 points versus Texas Tech earlier this season. Behind Gissendanner, Amanda Brown is averaging 14.9 ppg while Adrienne Squire checks in at 12.0 ppg.
"We're hoping to continue our strong play as of late tomorrow night against Penn State." said head coach Terri Mitchell. "Coming off a great win the other night against a very good St. John's team in our BIG EAST opener, we face another tough team on the road tomorrow. They are well-coached, they play extremely hard, and we will have to continue to play tough defense."
