Starting off the morning for Marquette was Chicago State. The teams faced off first in singles with Marquette taking Nos. 2, 4 and 6. Entering into the doubles play knowing the last point would be the deciding factor, Marquette pulled through with wins at all three spots.
Brett Binkley and Pete Van Lieshout took the No. 1 match from brothers Prakoso Imanuel and Prabowo Imanuel, 8-6. Troy Delmege and Greg Sirotek followed suit with an 8-1 win over Abram Mamahit and Brett Thompson at the No. 2 spot. The Golden Eagles took the No. 3 match because Chicago State was playing with only a six man roster.
?We had to fight through a little adversity and I thought our freshmen came through for us this morning,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?We played aggressively and they really came through for us.?
Playing at their regular lineup against Valparaiso, the doubles point again meant victory for the Golden Eagles.
After taking the doubles point with wins at every spot, it was wins again by Binkley, Sirotek and Ian Kawas that gave Marquette the win.
?Going through two tough matches like that where our backs were against the wall was good for us. It helps build character,? Rodecap said. ?We feel fortunate to have gotten two wins.?
The Golden Eagles are now entering conference play when they had to the Conference USA Shootout in New Orleans, La., Feb. 25-27.
