At No. 1 doubles, Maria Calbeto and Callan Smith were defeated, 8-4, by the Cardinal?s duo of Suzanna Gracanin and Leslie Stewart. Elsemieke Dokter and Francina Bonnelly played strong, but came up short against Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor, losing the match 8-6.
Marquette entered singles play down 1-0, but Smith tried to set the tempo taking down Louisville?s Stewart at No. 1, 6-0, 6-3. Her play was not enough to carry the Golden Eagles.
The Cardinal?s Robyn White took the match from Calbeto at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 3, Dokter found herself coming up short in the first set, 6-3, but battled back to take the second set, 5-7. In a close third set, Dokter lost 10-7.
Marquette will spend a week off before getting back on the road the weekend of March 11, taking on Western Michigan on Friday and Michigan on Saturday.
