Marquette was able to sweep doubles, coming away with a 1-0 advantage.
?We got off to a good start in doubles,? said Coach Steve Rodecap. ?We won the doubles matches pretty quickly.?
Singles play wasn?t as quick for the Golden Eagles. Brett Binkley was the only player to win in two sets, defeating Phalkun Mam at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.
?I thought Brett did a nice job for us today,? said Rodecap. ?He was able to get the win and get off the court pretty quickly.?
Steven Ly was the only Whitman player able to steal a victory from Marquette, defeating Eigis Vedrickas, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. The Golden Eagles were able to persevere through three sets, to take the victories at the remaining positions.
?Whitman came ready to play today,? said Rodecap. ?We played lots of sets in singles. We were tested today.?
With two wins in the tournament and only a single loss to #60 Nebraska, Marquette will play for 9th place against Cal Poly tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
