?(USF) is a good team,? coach Steve Rodecap said. ?We played well in doubles and got off to a good start, but then couldn?t take some of the close matches. There were three, three-set matches and if we had gotten those, that would have been the match.?
Freshmen Brett Binkley and Pete Van Lieshout extend their doubles win streak to six matches with a No. 2 win over Juan Barragan and Federico Barton, 8-6.
Binkley?s No. 4 singles loss, 6-7, 6-4, 11-9 to Barton ended this three-match win streak. Barton was playing at the No. 1 spot for the Bulls in the 2003-04 season.
?Brett is one of our most consistent guys,? Rodecap said. ?He went up against a good player and was kind of unlucky. We always know what we?re going to get from him.?
Marquette?s tangle with USF is the first of the Golden Eagles three match, three day Florida road trip. The netters face Jacksonville at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
