Women' Tennis Falls to Louisville, 4-1

MILWAUKEE?In their first day of competition at the Conference USA tournament, the #11 seeded Golden Eagles fell to the Louisville Cardinals, 4-1. The tournament is taking placing in Fort Worth, Texas at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, home of the TCU Horned Frogs.

Marquette?s No. 1 duo of Maria Calbeto and Dominika Dabrowski came ready to play putting up a fight against Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor. The Golden Ealges played point for point with Louisville but came up short in the end, losing 9-7. The Cardinal tandem of Suzanna Gracanin and Robyn White took the No. 2 spot from Elsemieke Dokter and Erin Watkins, 8-1.

Down 1-0, Marquette looked to gain momentum heading into singles play. The effort of Dominika Dabrowski was not enough to bring Marquette back. Dabrowski was the only Golden Eagle able come up with a victory dominating Louisville?s Tiffany Fox, 6-1, 6-0. Francina Bonnelly was defeated by Suzanna Gracanin, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot.

Marquette will match up with Cincinnati tomorrow at 9 a.m., in the consolation bracket. The Golden Eagles defeated the Bearcats on April 3, 2005, 4-3.
