MILWAUKEE ? Marquette University head women?s tennis coach Jody Bronson has named Valerie Vladea as an assistant coach. Vladea replaces Raj Gill who accepted the position of assistant coach for the Golden Eagles? men?s tennis team.
?We are excited to have someone on our staff who has experienced the highest level of collegiate tennis,? said Bronson. ?She will bring a wealth of experience in both her competitiveness and her ability to mentor our student-athletes. She will enhance our program tremendously.?
Vladea, a three-time All-Big Ten selection, played three years at Minnesota and one year at Northwestern to finish her collegiate eligibility.
While at Minnesota, she earned three consecutive All-Big Ten honors while playing at no. 1 singles and doubles all three years. The three all-conference selections made her the third athlete in school history to accomplish that feat. In 2002, she was named the team?s most valuable player and led the Golden Gophers to a final ranking of 29th in the nation.
In her only season at Northwestern, Vladea tallied an overall record of 34-9, including a perfect 12-0 mark in the Big Ten at no. 4 singles winning the conference title at that spot. She also helped the Wildcats finish the season as the fifth-ranked team in the nation and win its seventh-straight Big Ten Tournament Championship.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Vladea graduated from Minnesota with a degree in Sports Management and is currently finishing her master?s degree in humanities from Northwestern.
