Golden Eagles Complete Day One at Bronco Invitational

In other singles matches, junior Francina Bonnelly, sophomores Erin Watkins and Maria Calbeto, and freshman Lisa Nguyen were all defeated in their first round matches. Nguyen fell to Indiana?s Stephanie Heller, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6, Bonnelly fell to Ball State?s Stephanie Farrar, 6-3-6-3, Calbeto fell to Western Michigan?s Carrie Jeanmarie, 6-1, 7 -5, and Watkins fell to Indiana?s Sigrid Fischer, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action the Golden Eagles finish day one 3-3. The duo of Maria Calbeto and Bonnelly won a pair of matches defeating Ball State?s Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood 8-4 and Indiana?s Alba Berdaia and Marah Calvo, 8-3. Dabrowski and Watkins picked up the other doubles win defeating Jennifer Pollack and Emma Retter of Ball State, 8-6.
?Overall I thought we could have done better,? said head coach Jody Bronson. ?We didn?t show what we have been working on in practice. We need to follow through and play with energy and consistency. I am expecting us to play much better tomorrow.?
The Golden Eagles will resume action at the Bronco Invitational tomorrow morning with Calbeto playing Ball State?s Calderwood and Watkins taking on Thompson in Flight A singles, while Nguyen will take on Illinois-Chicago?s Grace Gil-Morlis and Bonnelly will match up against Minnesota?s Shelby Rohre in Flight B Singles.
