"This is important because you're raising awareness, you're raising dollars and you're raising the level of intensity for what's a huge, huge issue, and that's to make sure that Children's Hospital is getting everything that it needs," Crean said. "If we're doing that, then I think we're accomplishing something."
Prior to the start of the race, members of the Marquette men?s and women?s basketball programs spent time with the ?children?s champions? and then headed to the start line to cheer on the participants. Each year, more than 200,000 visits are made to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin by the children of Wisconsin, Michigan's Upper Peninsula and northern Illinois.
Throughout its history, the event has raised more than $7 million to help Children's Hospital of Wisconsin provide medical care, conduct research to advance pediatric medicine, advocate on behalf of children, and educate medical professionals and the community about issues related to children's health. In 2004, more than 17,000 participants raised more than $1 million for Children's Hospital.
