Freshmen Kylie Moore and Elly Strother walked away victorious as the Marquette women's tennis team wrapped up the third and final day at the Wolverine Invitational at Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Michigan.
Michigan's Sugiyama took home the singles title defeating teammate Tania Mahtani, 6-3, 6-4.
In the consolation singles matches, Moore quickly downed Michigan's Allie Shafner, 6-1, 6-3, to end the weekend 4-1 in singles play. Strother followed in suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Whitney Spencer of Kentucky. Strother was 3-1 in singles action at the invitational.
Junior Erin Watkins fell short against Kentucky's Christine Johnston, 6-4, 6-2, but rebounded in doubles play as she and Moore teamed to defeat Michigan's duo of Tanvi Dudhela and Chisako Sugiyama, 8-4, in the third round of the doubles round robin.
Marquette's other doubles tandem, junior Shannon Brown and sophomore Robin Metzler, was not able to hold off Kentucky's Joelle Schwenk and Caroline Winebrenner falling 8-3 to the Wildcats.
The Golden Eagles will be idle for the next two weekends and be back in action Thursday, Oct. 19, at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in East Lansing, Mich.
