ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The #18 ranked Marquette women's cross country team placed 10th, while the men's team finished 17th overall, at the Roy Griak Invitational this afternoon. The race was held at the Les Bolstad Golf Course, on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
UC Santa Barbara captured the 30-team women's race, which featured six nationally ranked teams, with 91 points. Arizona won the men's 34-team race, which had nine nationally ranked teams, compiling 142 points.
For the Marquette women, Jayne Grebinski was the first to cross the finish line, in 23rd place. She covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:57.95. Cassie Peller was 42nd overall, clocking 22:26.35, while Heidi Lindeman was close behind in 46th place, in 22:29.05. Amanda Beggs (92nd, 23:09.00) and Michaela Courtney (110th, 23:28.40) rounded out the Golden Eagles scorers. Kaitlyn Chambers (117th, 23:32.20) and Nina Hoppenjan (152nd, 23:55.55) completed the Marquette finishers.
Stephanie Rothstein of UC Santa Barbara won the race, in a time of 21:12.45.
On the men's side, Brent Des Roches was MU's top finisher, crossing the line in 48th place, covering the five-mile course in 25:48.35. Teammate Scott Mueller finished close behind, in 52nd place, clocking 25:49.90. Jeremy Williams was 87th overall (26:10.20), followed by Kyle Saginus in 95th place (26:14.95). Tommy Schmitz (198th, 27:11.55) rounded out the MU scorers. Josh Pinter (217th, 27:25.45) and Drew Craig (231st, 27:35.90) completed the Golden Eagles finishers.
Josh McDougal of Liberty captured individual honors, in 24:14.05.
