Moore and Watkins Advance to the Main Singles Draw at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Members of the Marquette women's tennis team, freshman Kylie Moore and junior Erin Watkins each won their respective singles matches Friday to advance to the main draw of the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship hosted by Michigan State University.
Moore took a win from Kayla Berry of Iowa, 6-3, 6-0, and Watkins battled Indiana State's Joanne Schickerling in three sets winning, 6-4, 1-6, 6-5, to advance.
Sophomore Lauren Little's run at the main draw fell short as she was defeated by Indiana's Lindsay Stuckey, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
In doubles action Friday, both of Marquette's doubles tandems won their first matches but fell in the second matches of the day. The duo of Little and Moore defeated Wright State's tandem of Foster and Beckett, 8-4, before falling to Cosmianu and Krisik of Notre Dame, 8-3.
Marquette's other doubles team, junior Shannon Brown and sophomore Robin Metzler took an 8-3 decision from Wisconsin's Robers and Mirnova in their first doubles match of the day. Michigan State's duo of Bader and Kebler got the best of the Brown and Metzler, 8-3, in their second match of the afternoon.
Action in the singles main draw is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET Saturday morning. Watkins will face Minnesota's Ida Malmberg and Moore will play Christian Thompson of Notre Dame in the main draw's round of 64.
