MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - In their third day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Minneapolis, Minn., Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford knocked off yet another duo on their quest for the title.
The Golden Eagle tandem defeated the number four seeded Northwestern pair of Willy Lock and Matt Christenson, 8-6.
"That Norhtwestern team was a really good doubles team," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Our guys went out with a lot of energy and put pressure on them right from the start. We played really aggressive. The match was tight towards the end. It was tied 6 all but we were able to brake and then held."
This is the first time in the Steve Rodecap era that a doubles team has advanced to the quarterfinals.
"For them to be in the quarterfinals is really important for them," said Rodecap. "They feel like they belong here and are excited for tomorrow."
Binkley and Rutherford will play the winner of Ohio State's Drew Eberly and Justin Kronauge and Western Michigan's Tim Bradshaw and Brady Crosby.
