MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - In the final day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals, Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford lost a close match in the quarterfinals to the Ohio State duo of Drew Eberly and Justin Kronauge, 8-6.
"I felt like we played pretty well, although, it wasn't the best match Brett and Mark have ever played together," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Ohio State played really well. We got off to a good start we went up 2-0. We had game point to go up 3-0 but lost the game. The match stayed tight until 7-6. We had a break point to get it back to seven all but we were unable to convert."
Binkley and Rutherford have an impressive 10-1 record on the fall season.
"I felt like we took another step this weekend at this tournament," Rodecap said. "A few of the guys are making improvements in singles and Brett and Mark in doubles. They realize the level they have to play at to compete nationally and they will gain experience from this event and in the future we can contend to win this thing."
The Golden Eagles will get little rest as they head to Western Michigan next weekend. This tournament will conclude the fall season.
