MILWAUKEE - Marquette volleyball head coach Pati Rolf has announced the signing of Rabbecka Gonyo to play for the Golden Eagles beginning in 2007. The outside hitter/middle blocker earned All-North Suburban Conference honors in her final season at Grant Community High School after recording 146 kills, 71 solo blocks and 109 assisted blocks.
"Rabbecka will be a tremendous addition to this team," said Rolf. "She is a big competitor, tough, likes to win and gets along great with people. Rabbecka has the size, at six feet four inches tall, to make difference in our front line, especially blocking. Probably the single most important factor is that she loves Marquette and is the type of person we want to have in this program. She has a tremendous, hard working family that appreciates what Marquette and Rabbecka will do together."
As a sophomore, Gonyo was named the most improved player on the varsity team and played on the Wisconsin Juniors Club Volleyball (16-1 & 17-1) team. After sitting out her junior year due to injury, she was named to the All-County Lake Volleyball Team, the Daily Herald All-Area Team and was nominated for the Wendy's High School Heisman in addition to her all-conference honor as a senior. Gonyo is also a four-time All-Academic North Suburban Conference Team member and Grant Community High School Scholar Athlete Award winner.
Marquette returns to the court, Friday, November 17 at 10 a.m. ET, as the No. 6 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament against No. 3 Pittsburgh.
