East Lansing, Mich. - Marquette women's tennis doubles duo of junior Dominika Dabrowski and sophomore Erin Watkins won their first match but lost their second match in the main draw of the doubles tournament of the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Michigan State University today. With the loss, the pair is eliminated from the competition.
The Golden Eagle tandem started the day with an 8-3 win over IPFW's Jessica Vervynct and Hanna Hager to move on to a second match, but fell to an experienced Illinois pair, Brianna Knue and Macall Harkins, 8-4.
"We learned a lot in both of these matches today," said assistant coach Valerie Vladea. "Erin and Dominika started off shaky but squeaked by to get the win in their first match. In the second match they came out and played well. They were aggressive and had many opportunities but the experience of the Illinois team showed."
The Golden Eagles conclude its fall season and will return to action in 2006 when they play Illinois in Champaign on Friday, January 20 at 6 p.m.
