Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Wolverine Invitational

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team wrapped up competition today at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center. Sophomore Erin Watkins, who advanced to the consolation finals in the blue singles flight dropped a close match to Michigan's Allie Shafner, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
In other action in the blue flight, sophomore Beba Calbeto was also defeated by Shafner in a three-set thriller, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7). Playing in the maize flight, junior Dominika Dabrowski came back after losing her first set and defeated Cincinnati's Elizabeth Young in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5), while junior Andrea Bukacek was defeated by Libby Harrison of Bowling Green, 7-5, 6-2, rounding out play in the wolverine flight.
In round five of doubles play, the no. 1 doubles duo of Calbeto and Watkins defeated Brown and Rowen of Cincinnati, 8-6. Another Bearcat pair, Klauck and Young, topped Bukacek and Dabrowski, 8-5, at no. 2 doubles.
The Golden Eagles will continue their fall slate at the ITA Regional Tournament in East Lansing, Mich., beginning October 20.
