March 7 -- - Sophomore Michaela Courtney has earned a spot in the field of the mile run at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. The championship will be held at the Randal Tyson Track & Field Center, on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Courtney clocked a personal and school-best time of 4:43.07 this past Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational, held at Notre Dame. That performance is the 13th fastest in the field. The mile prelims will be held at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and the finals are scheduled for Saturday at 6:25 p.m.
"We are very excited to have Michaela competing at the NCAA Championship this weekend." said head coach Dave Uhrich. "She has worked really hard for this and her confidence continues to grow every week. She will represent Marquette very well this weekend in Arkansas."
It is her first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championship and marks just the second time a Golden Eagles distance runner has competed at the national indoor meet.
