Piekarski Completes Day One of Decathlon at 2006 NCAA Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Matt Piekarski sits in 21st place after the first day of competition in the decathlon at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex at Cal State Sacramento.
The senior has compiled 3,469 points so far. He placed 10th in the 100m dash (11.36), 21st in the long jump (21'5 1/4"/6.53m), 24th in the shot put (36'0"/10.97m), and 11th in the 400m (50.05).
The second and final day of competition in the decathlon begins tomorrow at Noon. Michaela Courtney also begins competition tomorrow in the trial heat of the 1,500m run. Courtney is in the first two heats.
