MILWAUKEE - Marquette women's head tennis coach Jody Bronson announced today the hiring of Heather Saluri as the new assistant women's tennis coach.
"Heather was a very good doubles player and doubles is a unique skill that not all tennis players have," said Bronson. "You can teach doubles, but for a lot of players, it's not a natural thing. I think that her expertise in doubles and what she experienced at the University of Oklahoma and in the NCAA Tournament is going to be a big plus for us. I think her leadership, values and what she expects fit right in to this program."
Saluri, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, played both No. 1 - No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles throughout her career, and was selected twice to the Big 12 All-Conference First Team. As a junior, she reached the NCAA Doubles Championship round of 16 after setting a school record of 24 doubles wins in a season. Saluri had a career singles record of 66-46 and doubles record of 81-41.
Saluri is a graduate from the University of Oklahoma where she received a degree in Human Relations and a coaching minor. She is also certified through the United States Professional Tennis Association and taught at many camps and clinics throughout Iowa and Oklahoma.
"I am very excited to be at Marquette. It's a beautiful campus with great facilities," said Saluri. "I am very excited to be part of the BIG EAST and see what it is all about."
