MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's soccer team jumped five spots on this week's Soccer America National Top 25 poll. The Golden Eagles (2-0) sit at the No. 11 spot, up from 16th a week ago.
MU opened play in the 2006 regular season with a 2-0 start, downing Bowling Green, 3-0 on Friday, and Sacred Heart, 9-0 on Sunday. Both matches were part of the 2006 Milwaukee Cup.
Additionally, MU moved up two spots on the Soccer Buzz national poll. Marquette is now ranked 14th, up two spots from last week.
Junior transfer Allison Mallams had an outstanding weekend in her first appearances in a Marquette uniform. She tallied two goals in the season opener vs. BGSU and followed that up with two more goals and three assists against SHU. She was named MVP of the tournament and, this afternoon, was also named to the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, Sept. 1 when they travel to Des Moines, Ia. to face Drake.
