MILWAUKEE - The women's tennis team will begin its 2006-07 campaign at the 31st Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, Wis., Friday. MU will take on No. 27 William and Mary in doubles action at 9 a.m. before finishing up the first of three days of play against No. 29 Texas A&M at 3 p.m.
"I think our kids have really worked hard the last couple weeks in practice and are ready to compete," said head coach Jody Bronson. "I think they are really going to step-up and play tough against these nationally ranked teams."
Francina Bonnelly, Andrea Bukacek, Dominika Dabrowski and Kathleen Donovan return as seniors for the Golden Eagles to provide leadership to the four others returning from last season, along with three newcomers and one transfer. Assistant coach Heather Saluri joins the team this season, bringing with her the expertise learned while playing at the University of Oklahoma.
Saturday, Marquette continues play against William and Mary at 11 a.m. in singles action, and then takes on Wisconsin at 1 p.m. in doubles play. MU will wrap-up competition, Sunday, at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M (doubles) and at 3 p.m. against Wisconsin (singles).
