MILWAUKEE - After nearly a month long break from competition, the Marquette men's and women's track and field teams return to the indoor arena, Saturday, when they visit the Carthage College Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis., for the NCAA Division I Invitational.
"The first meet back following Christmas break is always kind of interesting," said head coach Dave Uhrich. "Most of the athletes are home over the break and doing workouts on their own. They are excited to get back to competing again."
The meet will be the second of the indoor season for the Golden Eagles, whose last competition came at the Earlybird Track and Field Invitational in Normal, Ill., on Dec. 9. Thirteen student-athletes combined to qualify for the BIG EAST Championships in 16 events, making the meet one of the most successful season-openers ever.
"Our main goal this weekend is to get back into competition and get back info the flow of things to set us up for the next three weeks of big meets," added Uhrich. "This is not a very fast track, but I expect to see some quality marks on Saturday."
Competing along with MU on the 200-meter flat track will be Carthage, Wis.-Milwaukee, Wis.-Parkside and fellow BIG EAST school, DePaul.
