Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's soccer team wraps up the regular season this week with a pair of home matches, beginning with a non-conference matchup against neighboring UW-Milwaukee Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The match will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports Channel 32.
The winner of Wednesday's contest will earn possession of the Milwaukee Cup. The Panthers are currently displaying the trophy by virtue of last season's 3-2 victory. MU head coach Louis Bennett, in his second season at Marquette, directed the UWM program for 10 seasons.
"It's obviously a matchup that receives a tremendous amount of local attention, which is well deserved," Bennett said. "We are going to focus on ourselves and try and continue the progress that we have made in recent weeks. I am looking forward to a big crowd and a great college soccer environment."
The Golden Eagles will honor a pair of upperclassmen on "Senior Night," defender Mike Carlson and Director of Soccer Operations Pat Stanly. A four-year letterwinner, Carlson has appeared in 69 career matches as a Golden Eagle, earning 51 starting assignments. He owns one career goal and six assists from his defender position and netted his first-ever goal last season against UWM.
"I am proud of Mike and what he has accomplished," Bennett said. "He has accepted his role on the team and has played the best soccer of his career this season. The strides we have made this season have come in part as a result of his contributions."
