Milwaukee - The Golden Eagle men's tennis team will host its second fall tournament this weekend, welcoming visiting squads to campus for the Marquette Fall Invitational (Oct. 5-7).
Play begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. and concludes with championship action Sunday afternoon. The six-team field will compete in three singles draws and three doubles flights. Consolation matches will be conducted in singles, but not in doubles play.
"It will be good to be back at home," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We felt it was important for this team to get as many matches as possible in the fall season and this event is a good way to accomplish that goal."
Competing in the event are: Butler, Chicago State, Green Bay, IUPUI, Marquette and Northern Illinois.
Each member of Marquette's 2007-08 roster is expected to see action. Sophomore Dusan Medan tops the squad with eight singles victories, and a pair of players own five victories on the young season. MU will be looking to continue its early-season doubles dominance. The team is 18-3 overall in doubles action, thanks in large part to an undefeated opening weekend.
"We are going to move some guys around to positions they don't usually play and see how they respond," Rodecap said. "It will be a good way to evaluate where we are as we look forward."
