Golden Eagles Ready to Wrap Up 2007 Season

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette volleyball team will conclude its 2007 season hosting the "Battle for the Bird Tournament." The Golden Eagles will face Maine at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23 and South Dakota State, Saturday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
After a season that began with the loss of four starters from a 2006 squad that finished with a 16-15 record overall, the Golden Eagles have been tested from the moment they stepped onto the court in 2007. They hold an 8-16 overall record and concluded the BIG?EAST Conference season, 5-9 under the leadership of the four seniors.
Senior Kim Todd leads the Golden Eagles with 4.76 kills per game, and ranked second in the conference. She earned First Team All-BIG?EAST honors for her performance. Junior Terri Angst leads the team in digs with 3.84 per contest, while senior Katie Weidner is dishing out a team-leading 11.20 assists per game.
Maine owns a 3-22 record entering the weekend after falling to Albany on Nov. 9. Lindsay Allman leads the Black Bears with 3.58 kills per game and 3.38 digs per game. Allman posted eight kills in the match against Albany.
South Dakota State enters the weekend with a 25-8 overall record and a 13-3 Summit League record. SDSU defeated IPFW in five games on Saturday, Nov. 17, to claim the 2007 Summit League Championship. The win also secures the Jackrabbits a berth in the NCAA Tournament later this month. SDSU is led by Kristina Martin's 4.31 kills per game. She is second on the team averaging 3.14 digs per game.
