MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team signed Gillian Hush, younger sister of current Golden Eagle Rachael Hush, to a national letter of intent announced by head coach Jody Bronson.
"Gillian will be an outstanding addition to our program, both on and off the court," said Bronson. She understands what it takes to compete at this level and will give us everything she has to make us successful. She loves Marquette and we are very excited to have her in our program."
Hush was a four-year standout at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita, Kan. She went undefeated her junior and senior seasons en route to consecutive state titles in 2006 and 2007, and compiled an overall prep record of 75-2. She won a doubles state championship in 2005.
An all-state selection each of her four seasons at Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Hush was won Kapaun's Wendy's High School National Heisman Award presented to a student-athlete who has achieved excellence in academics, athletics and community/school involvement.
In the United States Tennis Association (USTA) junior circuit, Hush climbed as high as No. 86 in the G16s rankings, and No. 108 in G18s. In the Missouri Valley section, she was ranked as high as No. 3 in G18s and was part of the top-ranked doubles team in the section.
"Marquette University is a highly respected academic and athletic institution," said Hush. "All of the students who attend this prestigious university have high personal standards and goals. I consider myself very lucky to be able to receive this opportunity, to not only represent Marquette by playing tennis, but excelling academically as well. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else."
