MILWAUKEE - The track and field team is set to open its 2007-08 indoor season with an early meet, the Blue and Gold Invitational, at Notre Dame on Friday evening beginning at 5:00 ET. The Golden Eagles travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to get their first taste of competition this season.
"This is a meet that counts, though it is small, but it will be good for us to see where we are at before the holidays," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We'll know what we have to train and get ready for, in the bulk of the indoor season."
"The goal of the indoor season is going to get as many people qualified for the BIG EAST Conference Championship meet as possible, and then work with those individuals trying to qualify for the national meet," Rogers said.
MU will put competitors in all field events, sprints and hurdles at the Blue and Gold Invitational, but will have few distance runners in order to let the majority recover from the cross country season.
Marquette will be focusing on hitting the BIG EAST Conference's performance standards and having individuals achieve the marks needed.
MU, Notre Dame, DePaul and Detroit Mercy will be competing in the invitational.
