BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Despite winning the doubles point, the men's tennis team could not defeat #59 Indiana, losing 6-1 this morning in Bloomington, Indiana.
In doubles Stephen Shao and Niko Boulieris were able to defeat Mak Kendall and Michael McCarthy at no. 3, 9-7. In a hard fought battle at no. 2, Trent Hagan and Pete Van Lieshout clenched the doubles point by taking down Peter Antons and Arnoud Roussel, 9-8.
"We were intense in doubles and although we didn't play well, we found a way to win that point," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "In singles, Indiana got off to a better start than we did. We never really played that well all day. We competed really well but weren't playing well. We were able to win second sets at three spots so that was good. We just didn't play our best match today. It wasn't clean."
The Golden Eagles will travel to Indianapolis tomorrow to face IUPUI (0-3) at 9 a.m. Marquette's record drops to 1-2 on the spring season.
"I'm not that familiar with IUPUI but I'm sure they'll be good," said Rodecap. "They are playing at home and will be ready to go. We have to stay focused and worry about ourselves and come out ready to compete."
