Van Sickle Continues Hot Play at USF Invitational

LAKE JOVITA, Fla. - Behind the continued good play of sophomore Mike Van Sickle, the Marquette golf team got off to a strong start at the Ron Smith/USF Invitational, a three-day, 54-hole tournament in Lake Jovita, Fla.
Van Sickle sits in a tie for third at one-under par, 71. He trails Ben Spitz of Rhode Island, who carded a six-under 66 in the first 18 holes. Missouri State's Jay McBride is in second at three-under, 69. In his last four rounds, Van Sickle has combined to shoot six-under par. He is coming off a win at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The Golden Eagles are in fifth and are 11 shots behind tournament leader Middle Tennessee State, who shot a 288 for the first round.
Junior Michael Bielawski came in at two-over, 74, to sit in a tie for 19th. Fellow junior Ted Gray is one shot behind at 75 in 25th place. Freshman Ben Sieg and sophomore Dustin Schwab are tied for 64th place at seven-over, 79.
Second round play is schedule for Saturday, March 3, with final round play to take place on Sunday, March 4.
