MADISON, Wis. - The Marquette men's tennis team lacked their usual intensity tonight as they fell to #48 Wisconsin, 7-0, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The Golden Eagles fall to 9-6, while the Badgers improve to 9-6.
Marquette was unable to come away with the doubles point, getting their only win at no. 1. Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford were able to get a win at no. 1, taking down Moritz Bauman and Nolan Polley, 8-5.
"In doubles we played well at number one," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "We didn't play well at the other two spots at all. We were flat the entire day and were never able to recover and that is something we aren't proud of."
In singles, Pete Van Lieshout was the only Marquette player able to come away with a first set victory, but then lost the following two sets to Gian Hodgson, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
"We didn't give singles any type of fight after losing the doubles point," Rodecap said. "I give Wisconsin credit because I felt they played really well. Our guys are really disappointed in themselves right now and are eager to get back out there and prove themselves."
The Golden Eagles will travel to Texas this weekend to take on the Texas Longhorns on Saturday and Texas-San Antonio on Sunday.
