Stoniecki, Magennis Set MU Records in Iowa

IOWA CITY, IOWA - The Marquette men's and women's track & field team competed at the Musco Twilight, Saturday, on the campus of the University of Iowa. Junior Kristin Stoniecki set a Golden Eagle record in the pole vault, clearing 12-1.50, to finish fourth. Freshman Kelly Magennis set two records on the afternoon. Her toss of 126-6 in the javelin not only set a freshman record, but also a school record.
Stoniecki broke the previous record of 11-11.75, which was held by herself and teammate Carrie Schmid. Magennis' broke the previous record of 126-4, which was held by Amy Merrill.
Senior Christina Flowers had one of the most productive meets of her career, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 18-7.25. She finished eighth in the event as only four other long jumpers in MU history have surpassed that distance.
Senior Kristina Malin also qualified for the outdoor championships, placing second in the 800m with a time of 2:13.10. Freshman Katlin Millin placed fourth in the event in a time of 2:13.47. She missed the qualifying mark by .33 seconds, but did, however, set a new university freshman record. Freshman Sarah Verdoliva finished ninth with a personal-best time of 2:18.17. Freshman Dani Owen, finishing 10th, also set a personal-best time (2:18.81).
In the 1,500m, junior Kaitlyn Chambers qualified for the BIG EAST Championships, finishing ninth in a time of 4:37.72, a personal best.
Freshman Kelly Corcoran qualified for the outdoor championships in the shot put, finishing eighth with a toss of 41-8.75.
The Golden Eagle trio of Michaela Courtney (9:33.40), Jayne Grebinski (9:51.54) and Anna Weber (10:00.57) finished second, fourth and sixth in the 3,000m.
In the hammer throw, junior Jenna Mahaffey placed fourth with a toss of 162-11.
Junior Jed Burey qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with an 11th-place finish in the 800m. His time of 1:53.55 was a season best.
In the 'B' division of the men's 400m hurdles, sophomore Tom Cassady (56.44), freshman Michael O'Brien (56.53) and senior Loren Wagner (56.82) finished second, third and fourth, and freshman Jay Emmer (57.01) came in sixth.
Junior Kyle Saginus placed second in the 3,000m in a time of 8:44.21 and senior Jeremy Williams placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 9:33.26.
Junior Raymond Bratchett and freshman T.J. Hodgson each cleared 6-6.75, reaching season-best high jumps heights. Bratchett placed fifth and Hodgson tied for seventh.
In the discus throw, senior Damian Anisko placed third with a toss of 154-3. He also finished third in the hammer throw of with a toss of 183-5.
Marquette returns to action, April 26-28, when it competes in the Drake Relays. Team members will also compete at the Redbird Classic, April 28.
