Track & Field Teams Compete in Four Meets Over Weekend

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men's and women's track & field teams will participate in four meets, May 10-12. The Golden Eagles will compete at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill., Thursday and Friday, at the Augustana Open in Rock Island, Ill., Friday, and at the Oshkosh Open in Oshkosh, Wis., Saturday. Senior Tommy Schmitz will run at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., Friday, in the 1,500m, and Saturday, in the 800m.
Junior Kristin Stoniecki and sophomore Sean Aldridge each competed in the pole vault, Thursday, at the Dr. Keeler Invitational. Stoniecki finished in a tie for third after clearing 11-6.5 on the women's side. Aldridge, by clearing a career-best 13-10.5, finished in a tie for 12th in men's competition.

The remainder on the men's and women's teams returns to the track with two weekends remaining to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional which takes place May 25-26 in Columbia, Mo. Four student-athletes, senior Michaela Courtney and junior Cassie Peller in the 1,500m, senior Damian Anisko in the hammer throw and sophomore Scott Mueller in the 5,000m.
The four meets are the first since competing at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, May 4-6, in Storrs, Conn. Despite and 11th-place finish by the women, and 12th-place finish by the men, four Golden Eagles earned all-conference honors. The 4x800 relay team of Peller, senior Kristina Malin, Courtney and freshman Katlin Millin finished third en route to a school record (8:55.44). Courtney also earned all-conference recognition for her third-place performance in the 1,500m (4:25.08).
