MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men's and women's tennis teams held a dedication ceremony Friday, April 27, to dedicate the state of the art tennis scoreboard in the Helfaer Tennis Stadium to former men's tennis letterwinner Charles "Chas" Mulcahy. The funds for the scoreboard were donated by Mulcahy and the Milwaukee Tennis Foundation. Mulcahy was a three-year letterwinner as a member of the men's tennis team from 1957-1959.
Both Marquette tennis head coaches, Steve Rodecap and Jody Bronson, along with their respective teams, as well as interim Athletics Director Steve Cottingham were on hand as Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Milwaukee County Supervisor Joseph Rice presented Mulcahy with a citation on behalf of the Milwaukee County Board.
Mulcahy is the only men's tennis player to win the McCahill Award in 1959 - presented annually to a Marquette senior athlete from the previous year who has demonstrated the highest performance in scholarship, leadership and athletics. He is also the first men's tennis player to be inducted in the M Club Hall of Fame in 1988. His three daughters; Mary (1982-84), Meg (1986-89) and Beth (1989-92) were each letterwinners as members of the Marquette women's tennis team.
