SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Senior Michaela Courtney finished 12th in her heat and 23rd overall in the 1,500m at the NCAA Track & Field Championships, Thursday, in Sacramento, Calif. Her time of 4:26.27 did not qualify her for the championship race, which is scheduled for Saturday. Courtney concludes her career as a Golden Eagle as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in university history.
Courtney does, however, end her career as one of Marquette's greatest distance runners. She earned All-American honors last season in a fifth-place finish in the 1,500m at the NCAA Championships and is only the second female student-athlete in MU history to make three trips to the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Courtney is also the Golden Eagle record holder in seven events, including the indoor mile (4:43.07), outdoor 1,500m (4:17.44), outdoor 3,000m (9:27.33), outdoor 5,000m (16:45.66), outdoor 4x800m relay (8:55.67), outdoor distance medley relay (11:32.75) and outdoor 4x1,600m relay (19:48.89).
