Marquette Cross Country Kicks-Off 2007 Season

MILWAUKEE - New Marquette cross country head coach Mike Nelson is set to begin his tenure at the helm of the cross country teams, as the men and women kick-off the 2007 season on Friday. The Golden Eagles head to Champaign, Ill. to compete in the Illini Challenge at the University of Illinois Arboretum. The women will run a 4K course that begins at 5:00 p.m. and the men will run a 6k race with a start time of 5:30 p.m.
"This meet is a chance for us to check our fitness levels," head coach Mike Nelson said. "It's going to be a low-key meet, I am holding the top two men out and giving some of the other guys a chance. It's going to be a fun meet that gets the season going and I'm really looking forward to it."
The race will include men's and women's teams from, Illinois, Illinois State, Marquette, Bradley and Danville Area Community College.
Peter Bolgert, Steve Briggs, Chris Cebula, Brice Cleland, Drew Craig, Matt Heinz, Kurt Keuter, Mark Kopecki, Eric Meissner, Cody Miles, Josh Pinter (running unattached), Nick Szczech will be running for the Marquette men's team. On the women's side, Amanda Beggs, Nicole Burr, Kaitlyn Chambers, Jayne Grebinski, Dani Owen, Cassie Peller, Kristin Pelzel, Beth Pollard, Laura Steinmetz and Anna Weber will compete for the Golden Eagles.
Last year, Cassie Peller broke the course record for the women, running a time of 14:11.5.
