Women's Tennis Caps Second Day at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team completed the second day of competition at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Senior Maria Calbeto and sophomore Kylie Moore came away victorious on day two in singles play.
In the Maize draw, Calbeto took down Western Michigan's Yumi Matsuto in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and Moore defeated Matsuto's teammate, Noriko Saruta, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (4).
Also in the maize draw, freshman Rachael Hush lost to Purdue's Stephanie Wooten, 6-2, 6-1.
In the blue consolation draw, freshman Christina Ruiz and sophomore Elly Strother won their respective matches and will meet in the consolation final on Sunday. Ruiz defeated Alejandra Boeker of Purdue, 6-1, 6-2, and Strother downed Emily Dudzik of Western Michigan, 6-0, 6-7, 1-0 (8).
Marquette played well in doubles play with two of three duos earning victories.
Seniors Shannon Brown and Maria Calbeto lost in the main doubles draw to Notre Dame's Kelsey Teft and Kali Krisik, 8-6. Freshman pair, Ruiz and Hush took down Broncos Kobayashi and Moccia, 8-2, and Moore and sophomore Maggie Wilson teamed up to defeat host Kari Wig and Lindsey Howard, 8-4.
The Golden Eagles will return to action for their final day in Ann Arbor on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
