MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's volleyball team returns to action this weekend when it hosts BIG EAST Conference foe Syracuse at 2 p.m., on Sunday before playing cross-town rival UW-Milwaukee on Monday. Marquette Radio (WMUR) will have the call against the Orange and Panthers, while Time Warner Cable Sports, Channel 32 will broadcast the UWM game locally.
"Our number one priority is to get to the BIG EAST Tournament and being successful against Syracuse and UWM will build confidence going into the Louisville and Cincinnati games next weekend," said head coach Pati Rolf.
The Golden Eagles return to action after dropping two matches this past weekend, at USF, (3-0) and at Georgetown (3-0).
"The Syracuse game will be a big match to see how we can rebound from a couple of tough matches last weekend," said Rolf.
Ashlee Fisher led MU in both games last weekend with ten kills in each match and currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.63 kills per set.
Syracuse enters the weekend after defeating Niagara 3-0 on Tuesday, improving its record to 12-9 (4-1 BIG EAST) and currently is tied for second in conference play. A familiar name will be found on the Syracuse bench as Hayley Todd, the sister of former MU All-American Kim Todd, is a 6-1 middle blocker for the Orange.
UWM returns to the Al McGuire Center on Monday for the second time this season after losing to Oregon State 3-1 on Sept. 21 in the Marquette Cheese Bowl. The Panthers currently sit at 14-5 (7-1 Horizon) and are paced by lone-senior Becky Peters who leads the team with 3.88 kills per set.
