Golden Eagles Looking to Rebound Against Northwestern

The Marquette women's basketball team is in search of a win after back-to-back losses when it plays at Northwestern Tuesday at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live from Welsh-Ryan Arena on the Big Ten Network (Ch. 63 locally on Time Warner Cable) with Mary Murphy and Leah Secondo calling the action.
The Golden Eagles (5-2) are coming off the WBCA Classic in which they went 1-2 in tournament play at the Al McGuire Center. Marquette defeated Gonzaga, 80-77, but fell to then-No. 16/15 Virginia (76-71) and Utah (79-76). Senior guard Krystal Ellis earned all-tournament honors as she averaged 19.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 2.0 apg. She registered a pair of 23-point performances in the losses to the Cavaliers and Utes. Currently Ellis leads the team in scoring with 16.0 ppg, followed by sophomore Angel Robinson at 12.4 ppg.
Marquette will be looking for revenge in Evanston, Ill. after the Wildcats squeaked by the Golden Eagles, 65-63, in the two teams' last meeting at the Al McGuire Center on Dec. 17, 2007. The Wildcats are 8-2 all-time against Marquette, including five consecutive wins from 1977 to 1991. Marquette last won in Evanston on Nov. 23, 1997, 81-70.
In his first season with the Wildcats, head coach Joe McKeown's team enters the game 2-4 on the year, with their two wins coming at home against Houston Baptist and Western Illinois.
The Wildcats dropped their most recent game to Missouri, 69-63, despite a double-double from 6-5 sophomore center Amy Jaeschke. Jaeschke is currently averaging a double-double with 16.3 ppg and 11.5 rpg. Two other players average double figures in junior Kristin Cartwright and sophomore Meshia Reed, with 12.8 and 11.8 ppg, respectively. Collectively, the Wildcats average 61.2 ppg compared to 79.9 ppg from the Golden Eagles.
