With a depleted lineup, the Golden Eagles were resilient in their last game and got back on the winning track at Northwestern, 55-54. Ellis finished the night with a game-high 18 points and five steals, and sophomore Angel Robinson contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. For the game, the Golden Eagles shot 36.2 percent, including 42.4 percent in the second half after shooting a meager 28.0 percent in the first.
Through eight games, Ellis leads the team in scoring with 16.3 ppg, followed by Robinson with 12.6 ppg. Collectively, the Golden Eagles have out-scored their opponents by 11.9 ppg and own a 6.3 rebounding margin over their foes.
Kansas comes to the Al McGuire Center for the first time in program history with an undefeated 5-0 record under its belt. Danielle McCray leads team in scoring (20.8), rebounding (8.6), and steals (2.6), and has scored in double-figures in seven straight games dating back to last year. Sade Morris follows with 16.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg.
Sunday's meeting against the Jayhawks is the third of the series which began in 1999. Kansas owns both wins, including last year's win in Lawrence, 74-55. The two teams' first meeting was in the first round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament in West Lafayette, Ind., where the Jayhawks came out on top, 64-58. Head coach Terri Mitchell's teams are 5-6 all-time against Big 12 teams. The Golden Eagles most recent win over a Big 12 foe was against Colorado, 86-72, in the 2008 WNIT Semifinals.
