MILWAUKEE - Senior guard Krystal Ellis was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll announced by conference officials Monday. The selection marks the ninth of her career.
Ellis led the Golden Eagles to an undefeated 2-0 week where both of their wins were in come-from-behind fashion. Against Northwestern on Dec. 2, Ellis scored the final nine points of the game over the last 3:04 to rally Marquette from a 16-point deficit and defeat the Wildcats, 55-54. She finished the game with game-high 18 points and a season-high five steals.
On Sunday against Kansas, Ellis matched her Al McGuire Center record of 32 points while almost single-handedly turning what had been a nine-point deficit into a second-half lead. Ellis scored 16-straight points between the 1:34 mark in the first half and 17:31 mark the second half to give MU the lead for good.
The All-America candidate averaged 25.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 4.5 spg over the two games, while connecting on 51.4 percent of her attempts from the field, including 45.5 percent from long range.
Her 32 points marked the first time this season Ellis has registered 30-or-more points in a game and sixth time of her career.
Ellis currently has a 1,709 career points. She needs 110 points to be MU's all-time scoring record men or women. Her 1,709 points place her fifth on MU's all-time scoring list and she is the fifth player in program history to score over 1,700 career points.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up final exams this week and return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 against Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen live on the internet on the Big Ten Network's website, www.bigtennetwork.com.
