Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team (6-2) continued its winning ways at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center Sunday afternoon, this time downing Georgetown 6-1 for the team's fourth-straight victory.
The Golden Eagles are a perfect 6-0 on campus in dual match action this season and have claimed all but two points in those wins. MU wraps up a six-match homestand next weekend versus Dartmouth (Feb. 15) and Arizona State (Feb. 16).
Straight-set victories by the top three singles players for Marquette sealed the win for the squad after the team had already claimed the valuable doubles point. Junior Trent Hagan made quick work of GU's Anthony Tan with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Classmate Stephen Shao did the same at the No. 3 position and sophomore Dusan Medan ended any hopes of a Georgetown rally after earning a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jeffrey Schnell.
"Trent (Hagan) helped continue the momentum from doubles by getting off the court really quick," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Stephen (Shao) has been playing more consistent, which has been key for our success."
Also posting singles wins were sophomore Niko Boulieris and senior Brett Binkley, who improved to 5-1 in dual action.
Marquette swept all three singles matches on the day. Binkley and Mark Rutherford clinched the point with an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 spot, improving to 19-6 on the year overall.
