Women's Tennis Hosts No. 29 Michigan Saturday

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis squad will welcome No. 29 Michigan Saturday, March 15 to the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Doubles play will start at 12:30 p.m. The match is Marquette's final home match for the month of March as the Golden Eagles will hit the road for its next five matches.
The Wolverines (4-4, 0-1 Big Ten), who are ranked No. 29 in the latest ITA Collegiate rankings, will play Wisconsin Friday before facing off in Milwaukee. After starting the season 0-2, Michigan has rebounded to win three of its last four, including two shutouts versus Oregon and at Hawaii.
Currently, five players, Lindsey Howard, Denise Muresan, Chisako Sugiyama, Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno, boast individual doubles records of .600 or better. Minnesota native Taney leads the doubles side with a 15-7 record (.682). She also holds a team-leading 9-6 singles record from the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots. Every player on the roster who has seen match action this season enters the weekend with a singles winning streak, ranging from one to three matches.
The Golden Eagles (6-8, 2-1 BIG EAST) had a five-match winning streak snapped when they bowed to No. 50 Louisville 5-2 on Saturday. Picking up wins for MU were senior Erin Watkins at the No. 1 singles spot and sophomore Elly Strother at No. 6 singles.
On the doubles side, the pair of freshman Rachael Hush and Watkins held off Louisville's No. 2 duo 8-4, but Marquette could not secure the doubles match point. The Hush-Watkins duo has combined for a 5-4 overall doubles record this season, and are 4-1 from the No. 2 spot. Freshman Christina Ruiz currently holds the team's longest winning streak, posting victories in her last six singles matches.
