MILWAUKEE - Senior Cassie Peller was named to the DI USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
Peller joins a total of 91 female student-athletes representing 62 Division I institutions. Four student-athletes finished in the top ten at the national meet.
"Cassie Peller really embodies everything that Marquette stands for," head cross country coach Mike Nelson said. "She is the true definition of a student-athlete. She is able to balance her school work, athletics and community service projects, while going on interviews for graduate school. We are proud to call Cassie one of our own."
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15 runners or top ten percent of finishers at their respective NCAA regional meet, or receive All-American honors.
Peller earned All-Great Lakes Region honors during the cross country season and ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 4:46.94 in the mile at the Meyo Invitational indoor track meet.
