MILWAUKEE - The Marquette track and field teams will help BIG EAST rival DePaul open Lane Stadium in Chicago on Wednesday in the inaugural running of The DePaul Relays.
"We're kind of mixing it up a little bit," said MU head coach Bert Rogers. "Because school is over for the spring semester a few people have already gone home. Mostly some of the throwers and sprinters will be going to DePaul to compete in some of the open and relay events."
Field events will begin at 3:45 p.m., and running events get underway at 6:45 p.m. Field events will include the hammer throw, shot put, discus, javelin, pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Running events will feature the 3,000-meter steeplechase, along with the 4x100, 4x200, sprint medley, 4x1500 and 4x400-meter relays.
"Our men's 4x100 just broke the school record last weekend, so we'll see if they can improve on that," Rogers said. "Most of our teams are a little more non-traditional. We're running some sprint medleys, which we really haven't done all year.
"It's a little bit more low-key, just to finish off the season on a fun note -- that's the way we're looking at it."
This will be the first track and field meet hosted by DePaul in over 50 years.
