The Marquette women's tennis team wrapped-up play at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Western Michigan Sunday afternoon. Juniors Elly Strother and Maggie Wilson, sophomore Christina Ruiz and freshmen Gillian Hush and Paola Calderon were all in action on the final day of competition
Wilson earned runner-up honors in the Brown Flight. Wilson was defeated by DePaul's Sandra Zmak, 6-2, 6-3.
In other singles action, the Golden Eagles saw their share of defeats Sunday as Strother was defeated by Western Michigan's Emily Dudzik, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) in the Brown Flight, while in the Gold Flight Consolations, freshman Gillian Hush couldn't hold on to defeat Olga Elkin of West Virginia after winning the first set, 6-2. Hush dropped the second set, 6-4, and the tie-breaker, 10-9.
In doubles play, the duo of freshman Paola Calderon and sophomore Christina Ruiz won the Silver Flight consolations with a 8-5 win over Elkin and Cardenas of West Virginia, after defeating teammates, Hush and Wilson.
The Golden Eagles will now wait to hear from the ITA as to who will represent Marquette at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships Oct. 23-28.
