Track and Field Finishes Action at Badger Track Classic

MADISON, Wis. -- The Marquette track and field squad completed action Saturday at the Badger Tack Classic in Madison, Wis.
"We had good performances across the board today," said head coach Bert Rogers. "Their performances bode well for our future meets. It was nice to see that what we are doing at practice is taking hold."
On the day both both Jeff Kluge and Jessica Ehlen recorded personal bests in the weight throw, each reaching BIG EAST qualifying marks, while Nick Byom ,Liz Wilkie and Albojay Deacon also recorded BIG EAST marks and personal records in the high jump, pole vault and triple jump, respectively.
For the men, Jeff Kluge placed second in the weight throw, setting a personal record with a throw of 56-09.50, while Joe Kohut and Robert Bleem finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.
Freshmen Blake Johnson finished second in the mile with a time of 4:24.82, while fellow freshmen Patrick Keeley and Jon Newman placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the event. After winning the mile a week ago and placing third in the 800, senior Mark Kopecki recorded a second place finish in the 800 this weekend.
Nick Byom placed second in the high jump reaching a personal record height of 6-08.00.
In the mile for the women, Marquette captured spots two through five with Olivia Johnson placing second, Jayne Grebinski fourth, Anna Weber fourth and Courtney Kelly fifth. A little over two seconds separated Johnson (5:06.01) from Grebinski (5:08.51) and Weber (5:09.69). In the 800-meters Dani Owen recoded a second place finish with a time of 2:25.15.
Senior co-captain Jessica Ehlen set a personal record in the weight throw on her last attempt of the day, reaching a distance of 59-11.25. That distance was almost a full five feet longer than the next closest competitor.
Kelley Corcoran finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 40-11.00.
The team next returns to action Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational, the second of four straight meets at either Notre Dame or Wisconsin.
