Track and Field Concludes Action at Laker Early Bird

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Marquette track and field team returned to indoor action Friday afternoon at the Laker Early Bird on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
"It was a solid starting point to the season for us," said head coach Bert Rogers. "In the past we have started a week later so it was nice to get a meet under our belt."
On the women's side Anna Weber, one of eight Marquette women to compete in the 3,000-meters, won the event in a time of 10:07.29. Sophomore Olivia Johnson, running in her first meet at MU, placed right behind Weber at 10:08.52.
In the weight throw senior Jessica Ehlen picked up the victory, reaching a distance of 55-08.25.
For the men, Mark Kopecki recorded a time of 4:22.98 in the mile to notch the win, while freshman Patrick Keeley finished third in the event in a time of 4:27.19.
In the 3,000, senior co-captain Kyle Saginus, sophomore Brice Cleland and freshman Blake Johnson finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
The two other captains for the men also recorded good showings with Nick Van Deraa's second highest indoor jump and a second place finish from Jeff Kluge in the shot put with a distance of 53-11.00.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday, Dec. 17 when they travel to Madison, Wis., for the Badger Track Classic.
